WAIKIKI TUTU GOES 'ROUND THE ISLAND I joined a group from the Waikiki Community Center on a Tour Bus We played "tourist" for a day...even tho we all live here, we saw places that most of us had not seen before.
I started my trip on Da Bus...Honolulu City Bus to the Community Center, and onto a comfortable tourist bus, with a driver that gave us information about the areas as we road thru which made the trip very interesting and informative.

After traveling thru Honolulu and on the freeway, a turn off on the Old Pali Highway was a great treat for the eyes... such lush growth, and a narrow roadway... First stop was the Pali Lookout... the most beautiful scenic view... very important place in Hawaii history, as a famous battle between Hawaiians was fought for the ownership of the land
A person never gets over the first time they see the Koolau Mountains... they have to be one of the wonders of the world
Next stop was at a large nature preserve... Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden with an art show, and gardens...There is no public transportation to this place, so it was a first visit for many.
Past the Hygienic Store, an island land mark
Chinaman's Hat is a favorite photo site. There are several other off shore islands in the background. We stopped, stretched, snapped photos and got back on the bus and went across the road to Kualoa Ranch for a buffet lunch... Ribs too good, The Ranch offers horse back rides, OTR trips, and more
We back tracked and visited the Macadamia Nut Farm Outlet...we were served coffee, sampled lotions and had lots of gifts to buy. There is a machine that showed how the nuts are processed.
It was getting late and we had many miles to travel so we had to hale on, passing the Polynesian Cultural Center, past the Mormon Temple, did not stop in Haleiwa but showing a couple of stands, a church.. I did not get pictures of the ocean, as I was sitting on the opposite side of the bus.
DOLE PINEAPPLE Next stop was at Dole Pineapple, where there is a display of pineapple plants from many countries of the world, all sizes and shapes of plants... |
TURTLE BAY The following pictures were taken at another time, during the winter months when the surf is UP.. but can't post a trip around the island without showing some water!!!!
